How to use this calculator
Enter your average monthly views in the first field — use your last 90 days from YouTube Studio for the most accurate estimate. Pick the niche that best describes your content, then select the country where most of your viewers are located. The calculator multiplies your monetized views by the niche RPM range and applies a country pacing factor, then deducts YouTube's 45% share. Results update instantly and show monthly earnings, yearly projections, and revenue per 1,000 views.
How YouTube ad revenue is calculated
YouTube pays creators through the YouTube Partner Program (YPP). The core formula is: Estimated Revenue = Monetized Views ÷ 1,000 × RPM. RPM (Revenue Per Mille) is the amount you actually earn per 1,000 views after YouTube takes its cut. It differs from CPM (Cost Per Mille), which is what advertisers pay — YouTube keeps 45% of ad revenue and passes 55% to the creator. So if the advertiser CPM is $10, your RPM is roughly $5.50. Not every view is monetized: ad blockers, non-served inventory, and Shorts views reduce the monetized percentage, typically to 40–60% of total views.
Typical RPM by niche
RPM varies widely depending on your content category and the advertiser demand it attracts. The table below shows estimated creator RPM ranges for US-majority audiences (checked Sep 2026). Actual earnings depend on audience demographics, watch time, and ad format mix.
| Niche | Estimated RPM (USD) | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Finance & Investing | $5.50 – $16.50 | Highest-paying; insurance and credit card advertisers bid aggressively |
| Tech & Reviews | $2.75 – $8.25 | Strong mid-roll performance on longer review videos |
| Education | $3.30 – $6.60 | Steady demand from ed-tech and SaaS advertisers |
| Beauty & Fashion | $2.20 – $5.50 | High view volume offsets moderate RPM |
| Fitness & Health | $1.65 – $4.40 | Supplement and wellness brands drive seasonal spikes |
| Food & Cooking | $1.65 – $3.85 | Brand-deal revenue often exceeds ad revenue in this niche |
| Travel | $1.65 – $4.40 | Q4 holiday booking season lifts RPM 20–40% |
| Gaming | $1.10 – $2.75 | Massive view counts compensate for lower RPM |
| Vlogs & Lifestyle | $1.10 – $2.75 | Broad audiences dilute advertiser targeting precision |
| Music | $0.55 – $1.65 | Short average watch time limits mid-roll ad slots |
Worked examples
These examples assume a Tech & Reviews channel with a US-majority audience (RPM ~$4.00–$8.00) and a 50% monetized-view rate:
- 100,000 monthly views — Monetized views: ~50,000. At $4–$8 RPM, monthly earnings are roughly $200–$400 ($2,400–$4,800/year).
- 1,000,000 monthly views — Monetized views: ~500,000. Monthly earnings are roughly $2,000–$4,000 ($24,000–$48,000/year). This is where many full-time creators sit.
- 10,000,000 monthly views — Monetized views: ~5,000,000. Monthly earnings are roughly $20,000–$40,000 ($240,000–$480,000/year). At this scale, direct sponsorships typically double total income.
What lowers or raises your RPM
Several factors push your RPM up or pull it down:
- Audience geography — US, UK, Canada, and Australia command the highest CPMs. A channel with 80% Indian viewers will earn a fraction of one with 80% US viewers, even in the same niche.
- Video length — Videos over 8 minutes unlock mid-roll ads, which can double per-view revenue.
- Seasonality — Q4 (October–December) RPMs spike 30–60% as holiday advertisers increase spending. January is typically the lowest month.
- Content type — Shorts earn significantly less per view than long-form because they carry limited ad inventory.
- Viewer engagement — Higher watch time and click-through rates signal quality to the algorithm, leading to better ad placements and higher RPM over time.
If you want to grow your watch time and views, pairing audience growth with longer, niche-focused content is the fastest path to a higher RPM. Channels approaching the YPP threshold can reach the 1,000-subscriber threshold faster to start monetizing sooner.
